Raise the height / shape etc? Any ideas? I'd love to store wood on one side but all I imagine is the bark & dirt getting all over the place. Drives me crazy! I know installing barbed wire around is not appropriate (lol) but would like to somehow ward off the junk collecting appeal in the design. It's a perfect place to set random stuff on ie: mail, little toys etc. Wish we'd thought about removing the niches before installing the floor - bummer! If we were to clad the back wall, would you include the odd area on the left above the doorway or treat it separately / leave it alone? If you have a particular idea /picture of material to use I'd be grateful! If we tile the front, would you also tile the 2 sides or paint them to coordinate? What about the top? The top of this structure is big & wide (6圆 ceramic tiles) it's NOTORIOUS for collecting everyone's junk since it is flat & accessible. We just had the hardwood floors installed 3 months ago. We definitely plan to remove the wood trim. This would look especially good if you decide to paint the wall light gray. FIREPLACE REPLACEMENT SCREEN CURTAIN TVLook for frames with rich wood tones which match either your fireplace mantel or your TV stand. These photo collage frames usually come with white pre-cut photo mats for you to insert pictures of varying sizes. Another idea, if you like the idea of displaying family photos, is to purchase two matching, vertically-oriented (taller, rather than wider) photo collage frames and hang one on either side of your fireplace. (It is really a little too small for the space.) Hang something on the other side that is similar in shape and style - something wirey. If you want to keep the clock, center it on the wall between the fireplace and the side wall. To accessorize your new look, remove all the smaller items on the mantel and side shelves. FIREPLACE REPLACEMENT SCREEN CURTAIN UPDATEThis easy, simple low cost treatment would really help to update the fireplace. If white does not appeal to you at all, try a very light, light gray which picks up on the color of the stone in your fireplace. It does not have to be a bright white exactly like the ceiling but it should be pretty close. Test the screen to be sure that it is stable and that it will not fall if bumped or hit by an outside object before you leave it.You also do not need to remove the wallpaper on the lower half of the walls below the shelves if you do not want to - just the wallpaper above the side shelves and above the fireplace mantel and paint all the area on the upper half of the walls where you removed the wallpaper white. Secure the screws into place so that they fit tightly. Use a piece of chalk to mark the places on the brick for drilling. If the format of the screws is somewhat different from the previous fireplace screen curtain, however, you should use the power drill and the appropriate size concrete bit to drill holes where they need to be. If the screws will fit into the existing holes, you'll merely need to use the screwdriver to twist them into place. FIREPLACE REPLACEMENT SCREEN CURTAIN INSTALLStep 3-Install the Support Screwsīeginning on the outside of the fireplace, you'll need to install the screws to support it in place. Bring the new screen home and test it for fit by setting it over the fireplace. In either case, mark the measurements of the screen and take them with you when you purchase a replacement. The two most common designs for these curtains are those that are secured in place by hand screws on the sides of the fireplace and those that are secured with screws directly into the front of the fireplace. It's easiest to purchase a new screen that is the same design as the old screen. Pull the screen away from the fireplace and up so that it doesn't scratch the fireplace brick. Use the drill or a screwdriver to carefully unscrew these screws and remove them. Find the screws that are installed to hold the screen into place and determine whether they are attached to the side or the front of the brick fireplace. To remove the screen, look to the top and bottom of the screen, as well as to both sides. Many people wait to purchase the new screen until they've removed the previous one so that they can be sure that the sizing for the new screen is correct. Before you can install the new screen in place over your fireplace, you'll first need to get rid of the existing screen that is old, broken or worn out.
